Hi Janie! Love seeing you here!

I love you Aunt Joan.  You were always there for me.  You all drove from California for my first wedding and supported me through that divorce after mom died.  Mom and you were best friends and she was raising 3 little ones while you lived with us your senior year.  She wasn't much older that you but took on the responbility and be a mentor to a wild teenager.  You rescued me when I slid on my bike and wrecked my leg against the bamboo fencing, drying my tears and bandagiing my wound.

I wans't the best niece in the your world but you were the best aunt to me.  

I miss you, Eddie.  Did you know you are going to be a grandpa?  You would have loved watching your grandchild grow up.  I guess you are watching from heaven, along with mom.  I love you dearly.

I was always in awe of Elizabeth's accomplishments and her determination for women's rights.  She was my mother-in-law for a short time and was always encouraging me to become more.  I never had her as a teacher but my little brother Eddie had her as his 6th grade teacher at Barranca Elementary.  

When my family lived in Denmark for a year Mr. Berteloot allowed me to do a history related correspondence course for my sophomore year at LAHS.  This was a required class which, obviously, I would not get in a Danish school.  He loaned me the book and I would send my answers via snail mail (no other way), and he would respond the same.  Tests and worksheets went back and forth until the course was completed.  I will forever be grateful for Mr. Berteloot's help with this.  Thank you!
