Sue Stockly

Lived in Mexico and Argentina 1972-1980. Came back to NM and earned a BA in Spanish & Business Education (1983) and an MBA (1987) at College of Santa Fe. Taught at Cumbres JHS and LAHS 1983-1987. Moved to Austin, TX and completed a Ph.d in Economics (1999) at The University of Texas at Austin. Worked as an Associate Economist with the Rand Corporation in Washington, DC and Pittsburgh, PA 1999-2004. Jumped at the chance to return to NM and worked at ENMU for the past 15 years. Retired as a Professor of Economics in August, 2019. Lived in Las Cruces and when my wife, Othena Smith passed away, moved to San Antonio, TX to live with my son, Vahid Friedrich and my grandkids. My son Ali Friedrich lives nearby. Dedicated my life to teaching and research on teaching. Another major research area for me has been racial inequality. I am one of a group of economists who developed the field of Stratification Economics which views discrimination as a result of generations of permanent socio-economic structures rather than market failure that disappears with free markets.

Lots of memories of great teachers. My Los Alamo education has served me well. Many memories of lots of fun in school with many friends.
