I have literally been around the world since departing Los Alamos in 1979. I moved back to California, then in 1983, joined the US Army. I spent 6 years in the Army and was able to live in the southern US, several duty stations as well my first two overseas assignments. (Iran Contra Affair, saw me stationed in Honduras on a temporary assignment), then off to Germany for a few years.
I departed the Army in 1989 just a month before Golf War I.
I went back to school to gain an AS degree in Data Communications. )This was about the time Al Gore invented a tiny thing called “The Internet”!) Anyone who knows me knows this is probably the farthest from any career move one would have thought from me in my high school years!
Even though my degree is only a two-year degree, I have had much success in my career due to this education, an internship at NASA Aames and another internship at Interop in the early 90's.
I met Bill Clinton briefly in 1994.
I worked at Cisco Systems on two separate occasions. The last of which allowed me to live in Singapore and Hong Kong for 7 years. It is in these locations I was able to visit most all the countries in Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan and Australia. I made presentation to groups as large as a few thousand people. I present to the highest level of government officials: Taiwan President, Tsai Ing-wen, members of the Sultan of Brunei’s Minister of Education, Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information and many more. Truly an awesome and privileged experience!
It is humbling to see how the rest of the world thinks of the USA. A good learning point all Americans should see.
My current position allows me to support the western US from a Sales perspective. I have been to Alaska now many times and find the state absolutely beautiful!
In early 2018 over a period of one month, I went from California to my first ever visit to Hawaii to Alaska and then to Tel Aviv.
And now, I am currently grounded at home like most of the reset of the world as we work through COVID-19
